Use, Care & Safety of Knives

  • Knives must be handled with respect.
  • They must be used correctly and taken care of so that a professional performance can be achieved.
  • Blunt knives cause accidents and more pressure needs to be applied which is not the correct way to use a knife.
  • Sharp knives enable work to be completed quickly,  with less pressure or energy.
  • Sharp knives give the product a better finish thus giving greater job satisfaction.
  • While carrying the knife, ensure that the point is facing downwards.
  • Knives kept on the table must be placed flat so that the blade is not exposed upwards.
  • Do not allow knives to project over the edge of the table.
  • When using knives, keep your mind and eyes on the job on hand.
  • Use the correct knife for the correct purpose.
  • Always keep knives sharp.
  • After using, always wipe the knife with the cutting edge away from the hand.
  • Keep the handle of the knife clean.
  • Never leave knives lying in the sink.
  • Never misuse knives.  A good knife is a good friend but it can become a dangerous weapon.
